Austin Texas Lakes
There are three lakes within the city of Austin, TX and five additional lakes just northwest of Austin. These Austin Lakes make up the Highland Chain of Lakes on the Colorado River in central Texas.
Lake Travis is considered a gem among the Texas Lakes. It has crystal clear aquamarine water that naturally attracts water sport enthusiasts. From multi class sailboat and windsurfing regattas to competition ski boat, cruisers, and mansion-like houseboats. Lake Austin is the sixth lake down in the chain of Highland Lakes. It starts at the Mansfield Dam and ends at the Tom Miller Dam in the city of Austin. A popular aspect of Lake Austin is Boating. With high cliffs along the shore, it provides shelter from the wind for all kinds boating activities and the cliffs are packed with expensive homes overlooking the lake.
The Sunshine Machine Boat Tours run a charter boat service on Lake Austin near City Park for up to 30 passengers to view the beautiful scenery, making Lake Austin a great place to visit.
Among the Three lakes that surround the city, Town Lake bisects downtown with some 10 miles of hike-and-bike trails that border the lake.
